استطاعت ثورة الإمام محمد أحمد المهدي أن تقضي على الحكومة التركية في السودان وعاد السودان للسودانيين ونقلت العاصمة إلى أم درمان فصارت هي عاصمة السودان وبها محكمة قاضي الإسلام وهي محكمة عليا في تلك الفترة عرف نظام قاضي عموم السودان إي (رئيس القضاء) حاليا وعرف نظام تعيين القضاة ونظام التفتيش القضائي والعزل والاهتمام برواتب القضاة وعرف نظام المحاكم المتخصصة كمحكمة السوق (محكمة الأسعار) والنظام العام وعرف القضاء الدستوري وظلت الشريعة الإسلامية مطبقة في أرجاء دولة المهدي وكانت منشورات المهدي بمثابة القوانين.
