الهدف من البحث: ادراك معنى هذا الوصف في لغة العرب، وعند المحدثين، وذكر عدد ممن اتصفوا بهذا الوصف، ومعرفة سببه، معرفة الفائدة العلمية الناتجة عن هذا الوصف، المنهج المتبع هو المنهج الاستقرائي الوصفي التحليلي المقارن؛ فبحثت عن هذه الكلمة في كتب التراجم وغيرها، وجمعت أكبر عدد من التراجم التي قيلت هذه الكلمة في أصحابها، وجمعت بعض الألفاظ الأخرى التي تؤدي معناها، وحللت كل هذا، وقارنت بينه كما سيظهر في البحث، النتائج: وصف: الراوية، يفيد أن صاحبه أكثر من رواية الحديث مطلقا أو مقيدا، المعنى اللغوي والاصطلاحي ليس بينهما إلا العموم والخصوص المطلق، غالبا ما يكون الراوية حافظا عالماً صادقاً.
