Overview
This paper presents a novel algorithm to enhance the performance of the Wave Division Multiplexing (WDM) dual ring network. The proposed Enhanced Virtual Output Queues Management (EVOQM) algorithm provides an elevated fairness for unicast and multicast data in the network and in addition provides extended QoS support. This proposed algorithm optimizes a collaborative resource management strategy to enhance the utilization of network resources and ensures the requested QoS pre-requisites are guaranteed. The realization of this strategy has been achieved by the reduction of the packet loss (i.e. maximizing the total value of transferred packets) in the network. Thus, leading to the improvement of the throughput while adhering to the delay pre-requisites. The performance evaluation of the EVOQM has been done through a detailed and extensive simulation analysis. Metrics of network throughput, packet loss and delay measures, have been the main basis for the acquired results.
