Overview
Based on claims that climate science is the core to science education, this paper provides a brief overview of how and why climate has changed over the past century and will continue to change in the future. It highlights the global climate issues and what science education can do for improving the public understanding for these issues. Nations, institutions, and individuals need to understand the consequences of climate change and seek guidance to deal with such new challenges. Focus is given for the content of climate science curricula and teaching approaches. The role of teacher education institutions is also highlighted for preparing prospective and in-service teachers. It concludes by recommendations to overcome the difficulties.
