Overview
تتناول هذه الدراسة التغيرات الاقتصادية التي حدثت في منطقة الخليج العربي في النصف الأول من القرن العشرين، عندما انهارت صناعة الغوص على اللؤلؤ وتأثر البحرين - بوصفها سوقا رئيسة للؤلؤ العالي الجودة - بتبعات ذلك الانهيار والكساد الذي بدأت بوادره بظهور اللؤلؤ المستزرع، وانتشاره في العالم بعد الحرب العالمية الأولى، وتعرج الدراسة على الإصلاحات والتشريعات التي قررتها حكومة البحرين تجاه صناعة الغوص ولا سيما تداول اللؤلؤ المستزرع، ومدى جدوى تلك القوانين والأنظمة في محاولة إعادة إنعاش هذه الصناعة، ونتائجها على البحارة والغواصين وعلى التجار الموردين.
