كل فيلم سينمائي هنالك دوماً شخص يراقب الأحداث ويرويها للمشاهد من وجهة نظر ما، وهو بمثابة الراوي في الأعمال الأدبية، والذي يرى الأحداث في الرواية ويقدمها للقارئ من زاوية نظر ما تتحدد بمدى قربه وابتعاده عن هذه الأحداث ومقدار اطلاعه عليها ومساهمته فيها. الأمر نفسه يتجلى بشكل أكثر وضوحاً في الأعمال السينمائية، خاصة في أفلام كوينتن تارنتينو، حيث يدرك المشاهد - دوماً - وجود شخص ما، ظاهر أو خفي، يقع على مسافة معينة من هذه الأحداث، والتي يقوم المخرج بتقديمها للمشاهد من زاوية نظره.
