Challenges for Developing Social Entrepreneurship in Algeria

Overview
Over the last years, the interest for the potential of social entrepreneurship to support and produce economic and social development has increased substantially. Social Entrepreneurship is gaining attention in Algeria in last years, but its growth is still slow. This paper seeks to investigate the reality of social entrepreneurship in Algeria by analyzing its legal context, institutional structures and the challenges faced by social entrepreneurs. We first try to clarify the existing efforts for developing social entrepreneurship in Algeria, then we explore the environment of social enterprise and we describe the phenomenon of social entrepreneurship through its various characteristics in Algeria, and finally we analyze the main challenges faced by social enterprises. The analysis focuses on the legislative framework and some of the components of the ecosystem of social entrepreneurship.
