تسلك اللغات في تطورها منحى إيجابيا، كابتداع مصطلحات جديدة تواكب التطور الحضاري، وآخر سلبيا كالميل إلى العامية. ومن المعلوم أن اللغات كالكائن الحي، إن لم تنم تمت. واللغة العربية أكثر اللغات استجابة لمظاهر التطور، غير أن ثمة أخطارا تتهددها، كالغزو الثقافي، وطغيان اللهجات المحلية على السياسة والإعلام، ولعل أشدها فتكا الاطمئنان التواكلي، إذ يعتقد معظم العرب أن لغتهم مقدسة، محفوظة، عصية على الفناء، لذلك سوغوا لأنفسهم تقاعسهم في نصرتها، وتركوها فريسة لسلطان الزمن المسلط على اللغات.
