Overview
تعد سورية ولبنان نقطة بارزه ومهمة في مجال عمل الإرساليات التبشيرية الأوربية في الوطن العربي بسبب وجود أرضية مناسبة لترسيخ نفوذ وعمل تلك الإرساليات بوجود الطوائف المسيحية المتعددة من كاثوليك وبروتستانت وأرثدوكس، إذ تخفت الدول الأجنبية تحت غطاء الدين وطالبت بحق حماية تلك الطوائف وصولا إلى أهدافهم السياسية والاقتصادية، كذلك في ظل ضعف الدولة العثمانية التي استغلته الدول الأجنبية لترسيخ نفوذها، وانطلاقا من ذلك أصبحت سورية ولبنان منطقتي تنافس من قبل الدول الأجنبية في بسط سيطرتها ونفوذها.
