Overview
تناول البحث الزلازل في كتابات الجغرافيين العرب والمسلمين، إذ حاول الإنسان منذ قرون عديد معرفة أسباب الهزات الأرضية، وقد ألفوا فيها العديد من المؤلفات وتوثيق الأحداث التاريخية للزلازل، ويعد العرب والمسلمون أول من فسر حدوث الزلازل ومنهم: ابن سينا، وإخوان الصفا، والقزويني، والمسعودي، إذ اقترحوا بعض الآراء لتقليل مخاطر الزلازل. ويعتقد أن الأراضي التي تكثر فيها الزلازل يجب حفر الآبار وشق القنوات فيها لتقليل الهزات الأرضية، وشهدت تركيا والأناضول العديد من الزلازل منذ مدة زمنية طويلة؛ لوقوعها في تقاطع ثلاث صفائح: الأناضولية، والعربية، والأفريقية.
