Overview
This study evaluated the attitudes and views of 021 High school teachers in the northern region of Saudi Arabia regarding the transition services that were available for students with intellectual disability. Teachers working in the northern region with students with an intellectual disability in their final year of school were invited by email to participate in the research. Their opinions were collected using an online survey constructed in Arabic. The study identified that there is a significant lack of transition services for students with an intellectual disability in their final year at school and that teachers feel ill-equipped in the development of a school-based transition program. The lack of transition services in the region, a lack of businesses willing to employ a person with a disability and teacher's inadequacy in developing a transition service within the school meant that the majority of students with intellectual disabilities lack any transition support in their final year at school. This study provides a set of recommendations as to how this situation might be addressed.
