Overview
The main idea of the study is to highlight the effective role of charities in achieving the pillars of sustainable development. Emphasizing the importance of sustainable development as an increasingly discussed international issue, the study focuses on the role of charities in achieving socioeconomic goals and underscores Islam's contemporary relevance by considering charities as part of the social economy-the seventh largest in the world worth about USD 2.2 trillion. Addressing the problematic of expanding the scope of charities and promoting their practices for sustainable development, the study sets out its objectives to introduce a variety of recent charitable projects and illuminate successful experiences, particularly those led by the Kuwait Society for Humanitarian Work (KSHW)-an inspiring model to other charities. Methodologically, the study employs descriptive research based on extrapolation and analysis, alongside an exploratory indicative approach. The findings elucidate the Islamic economic system's development oriented vision, emphasizing its call for a spiritually enhanced sustainable development, and underscore the significant role of contemporary Islamic jurisprudential efforts in expanding the scope of charity. Notably, the KSHW emerges as an innovative model of charity, showcasing diverse projects for social, economic and environmental sustainability. In light of these findings, the study recommends activating the role of charities in achieving sustainability through sustainable projects, and advocates for efforts to launch new projects and reduce dependence on financial aid and in-kind donations for the welfare and progress of Muslim societies.
