Overview
This interdisciplinary study aims to explore the role of literature in showcasing societal issues by examining bullying experienced by people of determination and their families. It investigates this phenomenon through the lens of labeling theory within the story \"Life without Language\" by the Chinese writer Dong Xi, a theory that's commonly employed in sociology. The story explains how society's labeling impacts self-awareness and drives one's behavior. The researcher used content analysis as one of the methods of analytical qualitative studies to analyze the verbal, physical, and social bullying that a family of people of determination was subjected to, labeled by society as \"disabled people\". Dong Xi expressed the psychological and social harm they endured, leading them to isolate themselves from that demoralized society. He expressed the impact of society's bullying and labeling on the healthy child of this family, who decided, eventually, to live in seclusion with his \"disabled\" family.
