Overview
This study investigates the effectiveness of a program based on English digital storytelling in developing critical reading skills among preparatory school students. The research starts from the observation that traditional reading instruction often emphasizes surface-level comprehension, leaving students with limited analytical or evaluative skills. Digital storytelling is introduced as an innovative approach that integrates multimedia elements-text, audio, images, and video-to present stories in an interactive way that stimulates critical thinking. A quasi-experimental design was employed, dividing the sample into an experimental group taught through the digital storytelling program and a control group receiving conventional instruction. Assessment tools included critical reading tests, teacher observations, and student engagement surveys. Results revealed that the experimental group made significant progress in skills such as distinguishing between main and supporting ideas, analyzing arguments, and inferring implicit meanings. The program also increased students' motivation and classroom participation by engaging them in the creation of their own digital stories. The study concludes that digital storytelling is not merely an attention-grabbing technique but a powerful pedagogical tool for fostering critical reading and creativity, recommending its integration into English curricula at the preparatory level.
