Overview
The workplace is a social context where many individuals spend a great amount of their time. Frequently being excluded or ignored is a common experience within all social contexts, and the research emphasized how those feelings could affect organizational members. Therefore, the research was conducted out of the belief that the most important factor in any organization is the human capital and to enhance this factor, members shall be ensured that they are feeling included, engaged and feeling emotionally satisfied in order for them to exert their best in work and to reach an exquisite performance. This research aimed at measuring the impact of workplace ostracism on organizational citizenship behaviors depending on the descriptive approach through reviewing literature of the main variables, in addition to quantitative approach using questionnaire that were distributed among staff members and teaching assistants in three Egyptian public universities, Ain Shams university, Cairo university, and Helwan university, where the sample size was 384 respondent, and the researcher distributed 410 questionnaire, however only 386 was relied upon as being complete in order to collect data and analyze it using statistical analysis techniques such as the T- test, Pearson correlation and simple linear regression. The results showed workplace ostracism had a statistically significant impact on organizational citizenship behaviors' dimensions with an indirect weak relationship with all the dimensions; altruism, courtesy, consciousness, and civic virtue, except for sportsmanship, where the workplace ostracism had an average direct relationship with sportsmanship. Finally, the researcher reached the main purpose of the research in addition to the need to spread awareness about the workplace ostracism through distributing regular surveys or feedback sessions to identify instances of workplace ostracism and address them promptly, also recognize and reward organizational citizenship behaviors to motivate staff and teaching assistants. As well as performing competition among the teaching assistants for the ideal one in various qualities, not only related to research, teaching but also interpersonal relationships with everyone around, supporting the idea of helping others and engage more in workplace.
