يعرض هذا البحث أهمية دراسة العامية، والدراسات السابقة التي قامت عليها، وخاصة التي قامت على التقريب بينها وبين الفصحى، ودورها في إحداث تغير دلالي؛ فوصف الاستعمال العامي، وقاسه على أقيسة المعاجم العربية القديمة والمعاصرة؛ بهدف الوقوف على مدى قرب الاستعمالات العامية، أو بعدها من الدلالات المعجمية، كما يبحث عوامل التغير الدلالي التي تؤدي دورا فاعلا في نقل مجال دلالات الألفاظ، أو تعميمها، أو تخصيصها.
