Overview
حظيت مدينة جدة بموقع استراتيجي في منتصف الساحل الشرقي للبحر الأحمر، انعكس بشكل مباشر على اقتصاد أهلها، فاشتغلوا في التجارة والحرف والصناعات اليدوية، فقد كانت في الغالب حرف متوارثة من الأهل والأجداد، وأثبتت الدراسة إن التنظيم الحرفي للحرفيين في مدينة جدة شهد تدرجا واضحا بين أهل الحرف والصنائع، فهناك شيخ الطائفة والمعلم والصبي (الصانع)، وادي تطور تلك التنظيمات إلى وجود نظام أو عرف خاص يكفل لإصحاب الحرف الحماية من أفراد نفس الطائفة أو من الطوائف المتنافسة.
