تتناول الدراسة المعابد الوثنية في مدينة تدمر التي تميزت بموقعها المهم على طريق التجارة بين العراق وقلب بادية الشام، فتبين أن الوثنية هي العقيدة التي سادت في تدمر قديماً، وأن التدمريين عبدوا الأصنام واتخذوا لها معابد تولى إدارتها فئة من الكهنة مع تنظيم الطقوس والأعياد الدينية في أوقات معينة من السنة، وتمهد الدراسة بذكر ملوك تدمر الذين تعاقبوا على حكمها، وأهم الآلهة المعبودة لدى التدمريين التي تبين من خلال النقوش التدمرية أن عددها ناهز الستين، ثم أهم المعابد التدمرية مع وصف أبنيتها وتصاميمها وفنونها المعمارية، وبيان حرص التدمريين على زخرفتها ونحت جوانب منها ويعرج البحث على أهم الطقوس الدينية في معابد تدمر، ونماذج المدافن فيها.
