يستجلي هذا البحث البعد الإثنوغرافي في رحلة ابن فضلان إلى بلاد الترك والروس والصقالبة، وهي من أقدم الرحلات العربية التي وثقت مظاهر الحياة الاجتماعية والدينية لهذه الشعوب، ويهدف البحث إلى استكشاف كيفية توثيق ابن فضلان للعادات والطقوس المحلية، وما تعكسه من دلالات حضارية وثقافية. اعتمد البحث على المنهج الوصفي التحليلي لفحص نصوص الرحلة ومقارنتها بالمفاهيم الإثنوغرافية الحديثة. خلص البحث إلى أن ابن فضلان استخدم رؤيته الثقافية والدينية في وصف هذه الشعوب، مقدما توثيقا فريدا لعاداتها وطقوسها؛ ما جعله مصدرا هاما للدراسة الإثنوغرافية.
