Overview
تسعى العلوم المعرفية إلى فهم المعتقدات والسلوك الدينين من خلال البحث عن جذوره البيولوجية والعقلية وعن الكيفية التي بها استطاعت هذه الجذور ومن خلالها أن يظهر ويستمر الدين على مدار الحقب التاريخية وفي كل زمان ومكان يوجد فيه بشر. أن نقد مايكل موراي لحجج (العلوم المعرفية) بأنها قد ولدت هذه المعتقدات الدينية إلى حيز الوجود بواسطة أدوات عقلية \"فإنها لا تظهر أكثر من شيء واحدا\" وهو أننا نمتلك أدوات عقلية محددة تحت بعض الشروط تؤدي إلى ظهور المعتقدات في وجود الإنسان والكيانات. لذا يذهب موراي إلى أنه لا يعتبر آليات تشكيل الإيمان أو (الاعتقاد) باعتبارها غير موثوقة، ولا إجمالا) المعتقدات المشكلة بكونها غير مبررة.
