تعد هذه الدراسة محاولة لرصد ملامح النظرية التحويلية التوليدية، في الفكر اللغوي عند العرب، وفي الفكر اللغوي عند الغرب، متمثلا في جهود تشومسكي في التحويلية التوليدية وأبرز أسسها، ومدى وجودها في تراثنا العربي، وركزت الدراسة على أهم النقاط التي تجمع بين الطرفين، وبيان صلة بعضها ببعض، وفق منهج وصفي تاريخي. وختم البحث بالإشارة إلى أهم النتائج ومنها: -الصلة بين نظرية النظم عند الجرجاني ونظرية البنية العميقة والسطحية لدى تشومسكي.
