استهدفت الدراسة التعرف على صورة رجل الأزهر في المسرح المصري المعاصر (أبو العلا السلامونى- حسن مرعى) أنموذجين، واعتمدت الدراسة على المنهج التحليلي، وتمثلت عينة الدراسة في نص رجل في القلعة لـ \"أبو العلا السلاموني\"- الأزهر وقضية حمادة باشا لـ \"حسن مرعى\")، واعتمدت الدراسة على أداة تحليل المضمون. ومن أهم النتائج التي توصلت إليها الدراسة هي: 1- استطاع \"أبو العلا السلامونى\" تقديم صورة رجل الأزهر الذي فضل مصلحة الشعب على مصلحته الشخصية من خلال شخصية \"عمر مكرم\" نقيب الأشراف ودفاعه عن الظلم ومطالبة الوالي بالعدل وعدم فرض ضرائب على الشعب المصري. 2-طرح \"حسن مرعى\" صورة للأزهر الشريف ومشايخه وطلابه في مواجهة حمادة باشا، والوقوف تجاه ظلمه وغطرسته.
