يتناول البحث موضوع \"الاستغراب\"، ومفهومه الذي يعني \"علم\" دراسة الغرب من قبل مفكري الشرق، معرجا قبل ذلك على مفهوم الاستشراق وأهدافه، وأهم النظريات العنصرية التي استند عليها الخطاب السياسي الغربي خلال مراحل مختلفة بهدف إذكاء الصراع بين الحضارات، وتأجيج الحروب بين دولها وشعوبها. وبناء على ذلك تعالج هذه الدراسة واقع \"الاستغراب\" في الفكر المعاصر، مبينة ضرورة تأسيسه كعلم، مبرزة أهدافه وغاياته المنشودة، وأهميته في مواجهة صراع الحضارات والخطاب الاستشراقي ذي التوجه العنصري الاستعماري، مسلطة الضوء على أهم الصعوبات التي ما تزال تحول دون تأسيس \"علم\" الاستغراب، وأبرز العقبات التي تقف في طريق \"المستغربين\"، وصولا إلى تقديم بعض التصورات والمقترحات التي قد تذلل شيئا من تلك المشكلات، في سبيل تكوين النواة الأولى لهذا العلم.
