Overview
استطاع داكنز في كتاب الجين الأناني إعادة تحليل وتفسير الأفكار التطورية الداروينية على مركزية الجين باعتباره الوحدة الأساسية للانتخاب الطبيعي والمركز المحوري في عملية التطور، وبذلك فتح نافذة جديدة عن طريقها لرؤية الأفكار التطورية الداروينية بمنظور الجين مثل مفهوم التطور البيولوجي، ومبدأ الانتخاب الطبيعي والتكيف الذي يعد مفتاح علم الأحياء، كما قدم نهجا أسلوبا جديدا للتفكير عن التطور. وقد أدت هذه الأفكار التي أثارها مفهوم الجين الأناني إلى ثورة صامتة في علم الأحياء، وكان لها تأثيرا كبيرا على علماء البيولوجيا، والبيئة، والسلوك، والثقافة.
