يتناول هذا البحث البواكير الأولى للاستشراق في الهند وأثرها في المستشرق و/ أو المبشر ويليام كولدساك تبدأ الدراسة متزامنة مع بعض الغربيين والنفوذ البريطاني في الهند من خلال شركة الهند الشرقية، وتمتد حتى ويليام كولدساك. يُسلّط البحث الضوء على التداخل بين النشاط الاستشراقي والمصالح الكولونيالية والتبشيرية والتحول الكبير في إدارة الهند بعد خضوعها للتاج البريطاني عام ١٨٥٨م. كما تقدم الدراسة تحليلا ووصفا للإنتاج الاستشراقي في هذه المراحل وتأثيره على الدراسات الإسلامية الهندية.
