تترجم الدراسة المحاضرة التي ألقاها مهندس السكك الحديدية في بريطانيا الرائد هولت عام 1923 م أمام أعضاء الجمعية الجغرافية الملكية البريطانية عن نتائج رحلته التي قام بها من الأردن إلى العراق عبر منطقة الجوف؛ بهدف دراسة إمكانية تنفيذ مشروع إنشاء خط سكة حديد يربط بين العراق وفلسطين؛ وذلك لخدمة إيصال البريد البريطاني بأسرع وقت ممكن. وتناولت المحاضرة معلومات تتعلق بمنطقة الجوف وأجزاء من العراق وسوريا والأردن في عام 1340هـ/ 1922م، وتبين الدراسة الاهتمام البريطاني بشمالي الجزيرة العربية على اعتبارها حلقة الوصل فيما بين مناطق وجودها في كل من: العراق والأردن وفلسطين.
