Overview
شهدت شبه جزيرة العرب في العصور التي سبقت ظهور الإسلام حركة تنقل كبيرة امتدت بين قبائل العرب وغيرهم من التجار وحجاج البيت العتيق، وكان ذلك عبر طرق التجارة الخارجية كطريق البخور، أو عبر طريق رحلات الحج في عصر ما قبل الإسلام الى الكعبة المشرفة والاصنام، وجراء ذلك دعت الحاجة الى اشخاص لديهم خبرة واسعة ومعرفة دقيقة بالطرق والأماكن والمنازل والآبار، وهم الذين نستطيع أن نطلق عليهم أدلاء السياحة أو المرشدين، فلم يكن آنذاك أدلاء سياحيين بل أشخاصا كانوا يقومون بدور القادة في الصحراء وأطلق عليهم العرب سابقا اسم الخريت أو الدليل او الهادي، أي الشخص الذي يهتدي بمعالم الأرض وعلم النجوم ويهدي المسافرين عبر الصحراء.
