Overview
كانت غانا أول حكومة سياسية في السودان الغربي وقد بلغت ذروة عظمتها في القرن الثالث الهجري/ التاسع الميلادي إلى منتصف القرن الخامس عشر الهجري / الحادي عشر الميلادي. وبالرغم من انتشار الديانة الوثنية والمجوسية فيها إلى إن الإسلام وجد في هذه الإمبراطورية منذ عهد مبكر على يد تجار قبائل صنهاجة البربرية في اودغست ومن هذه المدنية انطلق الإسلام نحو غانا وخضعت للفتح الإسلامي بزمن عقبة بن نافع عام (55هـ/672م) وهو الزحف الإسلامى لبلاد المغرب العربي، ويعد عام (469هـ/1076م) عاما حاسماً في تاريخ غانا ففي هذا العام وتحت تأثير المرابطين أصبح سكان غانا مسلمين واعلنت الدولة انتماءها سياسياً إلى دولة العالم الإسلامي.
