Overview
To talk about the 'Palestinian Reconciliation' under the title of 'Challenges and Scenarios' necessitates a preface elaborating on the reasons for the current Palestinian division. In addition, the analysis covers the Egyptian role in holding the dialogue rounds aiming at working out an internal reconciliation agreement in February 2009. However, they looked like hearings and records of opinions without thinking of solutions to the controversial questions with the Egyptian sponsor, who is supposed to intervene wisely to bring the parties' viewpoints closer. The major challenges encountering the Palestinian reconciliation are investigated and classified into two types. Some of them are external, represented solely here in the Israeli, American stance towards 'reconciliation and partnership' as well as the Egyptian sponsorship. The others are internal, related to both Fateh and Hamas and their visions. It is concluded that the reconciliation desired by the Palestinian people should lead to a genuine partnership on a democratic basis strengthening the Palestinian position in facing the strategy of the Israeli occupation. In fact, any partnership governed by conditions dictated by the occupation, the US or any government hatful to Hamas will not end up with a viable Palestinian reconciliation. Therefore, this file must be returned to the Palestinians themselves in a bid to open up new horizons for future cooperation. If the problematic status quo continues, with its misconceptions, regional and international interference, missing trust, equivocation, and media maneuvers, then the future horizons will be lost, the reconciliation will grind to a halt and the Israeli occupation will carry on with the Judaization and settlement activities.
