Overview
Egyptian affairs constitute a priority for Israeli think tanks as main partners in official decision-making. The present report, in Part One, explores the issues in which these centers had special interest in July and August 2012, namely Egyptian relations with each of Iran and Israel in the wake of the victory of Mohammad Mursi - the Muslim Brotherhood candidate in the presidential elections. Part Two addresses the major headlines in the Israeli media in their coverage and analyses: the peace agreement, security in Sinai and the relation with Hamas. It is concluded that there is a great deal of concern among the Israelis not only focused on key issues, but also on down-to-earth political, journalistic and social details in the most important Arab country. Both the media and think tanks play the roles of information and direction in a way that serves national interests and keeps the other side in the field of reaction. This displays the state of fear of the changes in the region especially Egypt, which might turn into an enemy after 3 decades of peace, though a cold one. Furthermore, the Hebrew State dreads a time when it finds itself encircled by Islamic surroundings, having no choice and losing its superiority as the major power in the Middle East.
