يعالج هذا المقال الدلالة الزمنية للفعل الماضي المحولة عن أصلها، حيث إن الدلالة الأصلية للفعل الماضي هي الدلالة على الزمن الماضي، وهو ما يسمى بالزمن الصرفي أو الصيغي، وقد يتحول عنها للدلالة على زمن الحال (الحاضر)، أو الزمن المستقبل، أو الزمن العام؛ وذلك حسب السياق والقرائن التي تساعد على تحديد الدلالة الزمنية للفعل، و هو ما يسمى بالزمن النحوي أو السياقي.
