Overview
A field experiment was conducted for two consecutive rainy seasons (2008/09 and 2009/10) in the Experimental Farm of the Faculty of Agriculture at Abu Naama, University of Sinnar to study the response of Sorghum bicolor L. Variety \"Wad Ahmed\" to sowing date and seed rate under rainfed conditions. The experiment was laid out in a factorial randomized complete block design with four replications, the treatments consisted of three different sowing dates (5/July, 20/July and 5/August) and three different seed rates (2Kg/Fed., 3Kg/Fed. and 4Kg/Fed.). The results showed that, sowing date and seed rate showed significant effect on number of tillers/plant, number of heads/plant, grain yield and 1000-grain weight in both seasons. The interaction between sowing date and seed rate showed significant effect in number of tillers/plant and number of heads/ plant in both seasons. Moreover, the interaction showed significant effect in grain yield in the second season only and 1000-grain weight in the first season only. The best sorghum grain yield was observed on maximum seed rate with early sowing date, and low seed rate with mid and late sowing date
