كان للنساء دور فاعل من خلال كتابة الرسائل الروائية، حيث كن يشاركن في الحراك الأدبي و هن في منازلهن يبعثن رسائلهن إلى الصديقات وأفراد أسرهن، سواء كانت تجسد واقعاً حقيقياً، أو َّ متخيلاً. و كان من نتائج هذا التوجه أن نشُر لهن و من الروايات التي نالت إعجاب القراء في القرن 17th إيفيلينا (Evelina) للكاتبة مدام دي أربلي/ فني بيرني Madame d' Arblay Fanny Burney
