Overview
يعد جاك بيرك الفرنسي الجنسية المولود في الجزائر، من أبرز المستشرقين المعاصرين الذين تعاملوا مع الاستشراق على أنه حوار بين الثقافتين \"الغربية المسيحية \"و\"العربية الإسلامية \"تحكمه طبيعة العلاقة بين الشرق والغرب. هذا الرجل الذي نذر نفسه وقضى عمره في دراسة الإسلام والعرب، ولد عام 1910 م في الجزائر، ودرس في أول جامعة أنشئت فيها، قبل تحوله إلى السوربون، ومن ثم اعتلائه رتبة بروفيسور في الكوليج دوفرانس. التقى في حياته رؤساء دول عربية، وعاشر فلاحين وناقش أئمة وفلاسفة ومؤمنين من، أهل السنة والشيعة، وجادل سينمائيين وصحفيين وتبادل الرأي مع مدرسين ورجال أعمال ورسامين وشعراء وكان هو شاعراً، وترجم إلى الفرنسية أكبر الآثار الكلاسيكية في الفن العربي المعاصر. وفي هذا كله لم يتوقف عند تلذذ ذاتي بما حصل عليه من معارف، ولا بما تكدس من علم من أجل العلم داخل برج عاجي.
