لم يكن هذا النص لعالم الاجتماع الفرنسي باتريك فارو مرصودا ليدخل كمادة علمية في نطاق التعريف الاصطلاحي لمفهوم علم الاجتماع الأخلاقي، بل هو في مضمونه ومقصده دعوة إلى ضرورة التفكير بإعادة الاعتبار لقيم. وقد جاء النص موضوع هذه المقالة حصيلة محاضرتين قدمهما الكاتب في إطار الحلقات الفكرية التي نظمها \"مركز أبحاث الحس والأخلاق والمجتمع\" في فرنسا في الثالث والعشرين من شباط فبراير 2006. يذهب الكاتب هنا إلى التأكيد على وجوب بلورة نظريات في التفكير الأخلاقي تمكن من مواجهة تحديات أزمنة العولمة وأسئلتها الكبرى المطروحة.
