Overview
Marriage is an important social institution with its characteristics, rules, norms and values which differ from one society to another.Yet, there are social constraints which oblige the individual to choose his spouse according to well-defined norms.These constraints are related to social and religious,and social affiliation. In this regard, the maraboutic Kabyle groups are characterized by an endogamic matrimonial exchange system in which the weight of maraboutic traditions and customs offer the individual only a margin of freedom when choosing his spouse. Additionally, these traditions do not even allow dating before marriage.The marriage of a maraboutickabyle individual gives the family, particularly parents and relatives the responsibility to choose the potentially suitable spouse.The maraboutic family is proud of its religious descent where the maraboutic belonging constitutes the ruling standard for the choice of the spouse.
