Overview
ساهمت أسباب عديدة في قيام الحرب الأمريكية-المكسيكية ويمكن جمعها في مسئلتين أساسيتين هما الأرض أي سياسة الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية التوسعية في المكسيك والادعاءات بخصوص إقليم تكساس الذي أكدت عليه الحكومات الأمريكية المتعاقبة بضرورة ضم وإلحاق هذا الإقليم إليها، لكن لا ننسي أن المكسيك نفسها أثارت هذه الحرب من خلال رفضها التفاوض في مسئلة انفصال وضم الإقليم، لذا كانت الحرب حتمية بين البلدين
