منذ ظهر الإسلام في بلاد العرب، وانتشر منها إلى بلاد العجم، لم يتنزه بالكلية من رواسب الجاهلية، ولوازب الوثنية، وإذا كانت البلاد تتأرجح بالإسلام بين مد وجزر، فيعلو حينا، ويسفل تارة. فالإسلام ينظر إلى التقاليد الموروثة نظرة ناقد بصير ليغربلها حتى يذهب الزبد جفاء، ويبقى للناس ما ينفعهم مما يتجدد صلاحه، فيقبله ويرضاه، وينظر إلى البدع في العبادات فيرفضها ويأباها.
