تطمح الدراسة إلى تحديد الدور الذي لعبه الرمز والقناع التاريخيّان في شعر سميح القاسم بوصفهما تقنيتين بارزتين في تجربته الشعريّة اتكأ عليهما في بناء العديد من قصائده منذ نضوج هذه التجربة الشعريّة ، من خلال الوقوف على تعريفٍ موجزٍ للرمز والقناع ، وتحديد الدوافع لاستخدامهما في شعر سميح القاسم و مصادر هذه الرموز والأقنعة ، و تحديد الهدف من توظيفهما من خلال اختيار نماذج من شعره تمثّل نضوجه في استخدام الرمز والقناع لما يحملان من مدلولاتٍ تعبّر عن مفردات واقعه و حياته .
