هدف البحث إلى دراسة مفردة (الأذى) في القرآن الكريم، وتحديد دلالتها من خلال السياق الواردة فيه، فبدأ بتعريفها من حيث اللغة، وتحديد الفرق بين مفردة الأذى ومفردتي الضر والسوء، حيث ظهر أن الأذى يطلق على أقل الضر والسوء، ثم درس الإيذاء في حق الرسل، وأتباعهم؛ ليتحقق من كونها استخدمت في جميع السياقات لذات المعنى، وليكشف عن إمكانية الاستعانة بمثل هذه الدراسة المستوعبة في الترجيح بين أقوال المفسرين، أو تصويب بعض الإطلاقات التي تحمل اللفظ ما لا يتحمل.
