Overview
The current study aimed to find a relationship between smartphone addiction and health symptoms, both somatic and psychological. It also examined if there is any difference between males and females in these health symptoms. A total of 1431 young Kuwaitis were selected aged 17 to 26 years old (M = 22.15; SD = 2.55). A questionnaire was the major tool of this study. It included some demographic information and other variables related to using social media via smartphone were asked. Four major scales have been used: Smartphone Addiction Scale (SPAS), Health Symptoms Scale (HSS), Degree of using Social media, and Social Isolation Scale (SIS). SPSS (version 23) was used for data entry and analysis. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used. The current study findings reveal a negative impact of smartphone addiction on respondents' psycho-somatic health conditions, many young Kuwaiti reported a high prevalence of somatic symptoms. I showed that young Kuwaiti also report psychological health symptoms as a detrimental outcome of misusing smartphones. It showed also mutual relationships between smartphone addiction and respondents' somatic and psychological ill health symptoms.
