Overview
Nematodes and Acanthocephala from 105 fish from the Scomber japonicas collected between October 2017 and April 2018 from Al-Khoms, Libya fishes which were frequently consumed by Libya. They were transferred to the laboratory of Aquatic Biology Department of Biology Faculty of Science A1 - Marqab University, inspection and dissection of visceral cavity was carried out. The nematodes found preserved structures displayed for meristical and identification. The specimens were identified from morphological study on features such as cephalic and tail structures, presence or absence of an intestinal cecum and a ventricular appendix. Nematodes were found in visceral cavity, intestinal lumen and abdominal musculature and identified as 3 species of Anisakids in larval 3 state (Anisakis simplex, Hysterothylacium aduncum and Pseudoterranova decipiens and one adult of Acanthocephala (Rhadinorhynchus pristis). This the first report of parasitological index and sites of infection related to the third-stage of larvae of Anisakids and adult Acantocephalain Scomber japonicas in Libya. The study was carried out on 105 fish Scomber japonicus and was examined for the presence of the parasites. The total number of infected fish with different parasites was 69 (65.71%), the data revealed that, the prevalence rate of infection with larval nematodes and Acanthocephala were (82.60% and 17.40%), respectively.
