يرى الباحث أن صوغ شخصية البطل في رواية (البلط ملحمة بورسعيد) شائك ومراوغ ومشع، ويمثل محنة كتابية حقيقية؛ إذ إن شخصية البطل تحديدا (وهي في الرواية المذكورة: غريب نظير مجلع، وامتداده نوار السلسبيل) يتصارع فيها (بالقوة نفسها، والعنفوان ذاته) عنصران عميقان، يسيران جنبا إلى جنب، طيلة السرد الروائي، وهما: 1- العنصر المقدس الافتراضي لا الواقعي، الذي يسمو به الكاتب عن البشرية الخالصة، مخالطا إياه بعلاقات الإنسان الأول بالبطل الإله. 2- العنصر الإنساني الواقعي لا المفترض، الذي يهبط به الكاتب إلى البشرية الخالصة، بكل ما فيها من هو جاء وتدفق ونقص وعوار... وربما جمال خاص!
