Presentamos la versión española del texto “The Status of Man and the Status of His Objects: A Reading of The Human Condition” publicado originalmente en 1979 y recogido en la colección de ensayos titulada Labour, Work and Architecture. Sin duda es el texto que da título a ese libro y el principal para conocer el pensamiento de Kenneth Frampton en aquel momento. El texto examina la condición de la arquitectura a la luz de las ideas de Hannah Arendt recogidas en «La condición humana». Tomando como punto de partida los conceptos de trabajo y labor, así como los de público y privado, Frampton analiza el estatus del hombre y de los objetos que produce como cauce para definir la situación de la arquitectura en la sociedad contemporánea.
