Overview

Research. this research aims to: Study the quranic recitations of the chapter Al-Ikhlaas – the recitation of which earns the reciter a reward equating to reciting one-third of the whole Quran. · Explain the extent to which the derived meanings and exegesis of this chapter are affected by the various modes of recitation that are present. · Show some of the implications arising from the linguistic and interpretational analysis of these various modes of recitation on the monotheistic theology of the names and attributes of Allah, the Exalted. · Clarify the linguistic and interpretational connection between the letters in the authentic and nonauthentically related and differed-over recitations of His statement: ‘Say, ‘He is Allah Al-Ahad’ and ‘Say, ‘He is Allah Al-Al-Waahid’. · Clarify the difference between affirming certain phrases in the recitations and omitting others. · Clarify the varied types of linguistic address found in the various modes of recitation and its impact on derived theological rulings. · Explain the difference between the meanings of Al-Ahad and Al-Al-Waahid and the implications of that on theology. · Explain the connection between this difference and the differences existing in the meanings of ‘AlSamad’. · Explain the connection between the differed-over meanings of Al-Samad and meaning derived from the deferring recitations of the phrase ‘Kufu-an Ahad’ (by emphasizing the Hamza) and ‘Kufu-wan had’ (by omitting the Hamza). · Study the integrated connection between the phrases in the various modes of recitation and their consequential meaning, and the general context of the chapter in relation to the reasons for its revelation, its virtues and status in the general sense.
