Demotic Texts Revised A Demotic Berichtigungsliste

Overview

As demotic texts are not often, and also not easily, re-edited, a demotic version of the Berichtigungsliste der Griechischen Papyrusurkunden aus Ägypten seems like the ideal means to keep text editions up to date. The importance of a Berichtigungsliste in rendering demotic texts more accessible to students from outside the demotic specialisation, Egyptologists and Greek Papyrologists, Historians, ect., but also to the beginners in demotic proper, as well as the specialist eventually, need not be stressed. This paper is meant to announce our Institute's intention to prepare just such a demotic Berichtgungsliste. The requirements imposed on this undertaking by the wide public of non-specialists that we hope to adress, and the inherent difficulties, will be amply discussed. A peroration will dwell on the attitude towards texts and scientifïc tools of your average ideal demotic scholar.
