Overview
Dans l’étude de l’histoire de l’homicide, l’approche quantitative est un aspect fondamental. Pour l’Ancien Régime, la difficulté consiste à confectionner des séries chiffrées fiables. L’enregistrement, plus ou moins systématique selon les époques, des rémissions accordées dans le duché de Brabant entre 1501 et 1633 dans les comptes du droit du sceau permet, moyennant une lecture critique, d’approcher le nombre des homicides commis durant la période étudiée.
The quantitative approach is a fundamental aspect of the study of the history of homicide. For the Ancien Régime, the difficulty lies in producing reliable numbered series. Depending on the era, seal law accounts record more or less systematically the remissions granted in the Duchy of Brabant between 1501 and 1633, thus making it possible, with a critical reading, to gain an idea of the number of homicides committed during the period being studied.
