Overview
This article takes into consideration the essays by Elsa Morante written between the publication of L’isola di Arturo (1957) and La Storia (1974) : those years are characterised by a strong political commitment, where there was a coming together with Pasolini, reciprocal ability to influence each other, and then finally a break with him. I will be analysing the Sixties, and will also be referring back to the relationship with Pasolini as a means to try and investigate the answers Morante found as a reaction to her existential crisis. This is linked to the issue of the role of the intellectual, which I develop through a final comparison to the vision of this figure by Edward Said.
