L’OTTAVO DISTRETTO DI BUDAPEST NELLA NARRATIVA DI GIORGIO PRESSBURGER

Overview

La narrativa di Giorgio Pressburger è frutto di un viaggio vòlto a ricostruire a frammenti il proprio destino e quello della comunità di appartenenza. In tal senso il punto d’avvio della sua scrittura risiede – lo testimoniano una serie di testi costruiti sul filo della memoria familiare, individuale e collettiva – nel ghetto brulicante di traffici e persone di Budapest, quell’Ottavo Distretto raccolto attorno al mercato di piazza Teleki che riappare a intermittenza in molti suoi racconti e romanzi. In essi, infatti, il luogo di origine assume un significato essenziale, quale spazio connotato in termini geografici, storici e antropologici. Forse perché – come si legge ne L’orologio di Monaco – « senza il passato, il presente sarebbe un deserto terrificante ». Giorgio Pressburger’s narrative is the result of a journey to reconstruct his own destiny and that of his community by bringing fragments together. In this sense, the starting point of his writing resides - as evidenced by a series of texts that follow the threads of family, individual and collective memory - in Budapest’s ghetto bustling with traffic and people, the Eighth District surrounding the market of Teleki Square that reappears intermittently in many of Pressburger’s short stories and novels. In these works, the place of origin takes on an essential meaning as a space with distinctive geographical, historical and anthropological features. Perhaps because - as we read in L’orologio di Monaco (The Munich’s Clock) - “without the past, the present would be a terrifying desert”.
