Overview
La profesión de bombero representa, con seguridad, uno de los oficios de mayor demanda física del sector público (Bahrke, 1982; Brownlie et al., 1985; Davis, Dotson, & Santa María, 1982; Gledhill & Jamnik, 1992a). Una inusual y significativa alta incidencia de accidentes laborales y muertes prematuras hacen que sea considerada como una de las profesiones de riesgo (Bahrke, 1982; Baris et al., 2001; Barnard, Gardner, & Diaco, 1976; Cady, Bischoff, O'Connell, Thomas, & Allan, 1979; Cady, Thomas, & Kawasky, 1985; Demers, Heyer, & Rosenstock, 1992; IAFF, 1979; Ma et al., 2005), estableciéndose incluso en sus retribuciones económicas un plus de peligrosidad como compensación.
